On March 3, 2011 the concerns of RDLN and rural women were brought to the Commission on the Status of Women General Discussion. Those present represented the governments of countries from around the world. In an oral statement, Starry Krueger spoke for RDLN and the Rural Caucus, urging that more grassroots rural women be included in CSW events, proceedings, and decision-making. She stated that “National and international policy must be changed . . . to advance the well being and social equity of poor rural women and their families.” During the speech she advised that to overcome “barriers we must sit at the table of power where decisions are made about us.” RDLN has organized events for rural women at the United Nations since 1994. Every year women express these feelings to us.
